Special Education

1-- Special education, according to UNESCO, is designed to accompany learners who need additional support to achieve their learning goals. It is aimed at people with learning disabilities, communication difficulties, emotional or behavioral disorders, or physical or intellectual disabilities. UNESCO promotes inclusion in education, ensuring that all children have access to quality education regardless of their situation.

UNESCO promotes inclusive education for all, including individuals with disabilities, and specifically addresses the needs of blind and visually impaired learners. This involves ensuring equal access to quality education and addressing any barriers that may prevent full participation.

2-- EXAMPLES of specific projects carried out by UNESCO under the Avicenna project

Each Avicenne centre has at least one work station for blind teachers and students.

5% of the production of online courses are adapted for blind people. There were more than 1000 users (teachers and students who benefited from the Avicenna projects in the Mediterranean.

Other projects have been carried out in Africa, India and the Arab countries.
