Non-formal education
Non-formal education refers to an educational approach that takes place outside the formal school system, but is nonetheless structured and planned. It aims to develop individuals' skills and abilities, as a complement to or alternative to formal education.
The objective is to improve the provision and quality of literacy and non-formal basic education.

Three specific projects implemented by UNESCO within the framework of the Avicenna projects are:
• The TMG (Train My Generation) project in Gabon
• The Education Cannot Wait project in Cameroon's NWSW region
• The PREAT project in Chad
The 'Education Cannot Wait' project in NWSW Cameroon was based on the Avicenna concept and enabled the training of primary and secondary school teachers in pedagogical engineering for the production of online courses and in producing courses adapted to the situation in the region. These produced courses are intended for non-formal education.
TMG Gabon was designed
based on the Avicenna concept and has enabled more than 5,000 out-of-school
youth to receive ICT training throughout the country.
